One of the most significant dog shows in the United States is the National Dog Show, which is held in Pennsylvania on the Thanksgiving holiday weekend and broadcast on NBC. Each year, the judges choose the best in show, reserve best in show, best of breed, and the group winner. While we don’t know all the results yet, we do know who is this year’s best in show: a Belgian Sheepdog called Soleil.
Meet Soleil
The victory is historic because it’s the first time a Belgian Sheepdog has won the esteemed Best in Show award at the Philadelphia competition. The judges were impressed by Soleil’s remarkable presentation, fluid motions, and enthusiastic performance, and they gave her the competition’s highest award.
The Soleil’s owners are Connie Jasinski (Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina), Pat Snow (Sapulpa, Oklahoma), and Nancy Maye (Towanda, Kansas). Her handler is Daniel Martin (Princeton, North Carolina) and her full registered name is GCHS Prairiewind Songs of Summer at La Neige.
You can watch Best in Show full judging on their official YouTube channel or on the video below.
Other Winners
The National Dog Show chooses the reserve best in show and this year’s runner-up is George, an American Foxhound. He was also the winner of its group, the Hound group. Other group winners are:
- Winner of the Sporting Group: Tyler, the English Setter
- Winner of the Non-Sporting Group: Neal, the Bichon Frise
- Winner of the Terrier Group: Baby Joe, the Miniature Schnauzer
- Winner of the Working Group: Dino, the Giant Schnauzer
